A Little About Kids LOVE the Earth!
This site was meant to be a children's book publishing company with a mission of producing materials that promote loving, respectful care of the earth and all beings on it.
It was a good idea that never manifested for multiple reasons. One was the huge cash outlay required to produce quantities of four-color, beautiful books. Another was the insecure economy. And a third was the very real contradiction that in order to produce lots of expensive, beautiful books, we'd wind up using resources--trees, electricity, gasoline, human time and effort--we didn't want to use. And once we had those valuable creations in hand, we would have to be prepared to be consumed by marketing, selling, and promoting them.
In other words, in order to fulfill our vision of a happy, thriving little company that was doing good work in the world, we'd need to actively participate in the whole consumer-driven market push that is behind so much of the thoughtless use-and-abuse of our abundant world. Instead, we decided to try something different that would be more in line with our loves and hopes and lifestyles. Simple. Honest. Heartfelt, and fun.
Kids LOVE the Earth is a simple little idea with a big mission: To help kids stay in love with the world around them.
Depending on your age, you may have grown up playing ball with neighborhood friends, fishing in a nearby stream, walking through woods to school, or rolling down a hill in late spring. Perhaps you went for walks with your grandparents, took a field trip to a farm, or had regular picnics at a park in your area. Even though times have changed and are changing, kids still have an affinity for nature. The sound of the rain, the shape of the moon, the feel of the wind, and the crunch of leaves in early fall are connecting, powerful, and immediate experiences 8-year-olds and 80-year-olds still feel today. Depending on the rush and tumble of your workday, you may go hours, days, weeks without having a chance to connect with the earth--but when you do, you love it, don't you? We do and we want to remember that--and not forget. The earth needs our remembering. Our kids are closer to living that remembering than we are when we get caught up in the world of busyness and business. This site is all about noticing, remembering, enjoying, and loving the earth, in all its forms and expressions.
We hope you will enjoy what you find here, and share it freely with anyone--child or otherwise--you think might enjoy it.
